Preparing your home

Getting Started

Preparing your house to sell can seem like a daunting task. While you don't need to completely overhaul your entire home, you do need to look at it objectively to determine if anything needs to be fixed to have your home shown in the best possible way to prospective buyers.

First Impressions

First impressions can make or break a sale. Make a great first impression by taking care of details that count.

  • Paint the front door if it is looking a bit worn; the front door is the first thing the buyer sees
  • Ensure your yard is taken care of - fresh mulch, appealing landscaping and a well manicured lawn
  • Wash the windows inside and out

The House

Attention to detail can show your property in a better light.

  • Touch up the paint where it is needed
  • Raise the shades or open the curtains to let in as much natural light as possible
  • Polish or refinish floors if needed
  • Clean out the clutter from closets, attics, basements & garages

Clean Up

  • Clean all appliances thoroughly
  • Check the details! Make sure things like doors, windows & cabinets don't stick or have loose knobs
  • Ensure the safety of visitors by removing snow and ice from walkways and keeping stairs & walkways uncluttered
  • Bathrooms are one of the biggest factors in buyers selecting a house. Check and repair any damaged or discolored caulking around tubs & shower
